During my talks, I interact with many and the most frequent question is about seeking enlightenment.
Most of these questions come during a Jyotish consultation session. Someone says I have this combination for moksha, my Ketu is very powerful, the yogas, etc. However, we need to take a deep dive into this.
Somehow, people have romanticized the very concept of spirituality or enlightenment. It is sold as something that is attainable, and easy, and all it takes is a specific practice every day for 15 mins to 30 mins. These practices may work, but not in the sequence you have been taught.
The process of spirituality is extremely painful. Enlightenment is a highly destructive process. Once the process starts, it cannot be stopped till it reaches its logical end. Enlightenment is the very process where you witness your highly held ideologies, your dearly held truths, your convictions, everything that defined you, everything that you defined is all crumbling away.
Enlightenment will start the complete eradication or annihilation of everything you imagined to be true.
We cannot even let go of our political party ideology, we are looking for enlightenment. Do you see how absurd this is? More importantly, how painful can this process be?
What Next?
Let us for a moment say, you go through all this. Then what? Now that you are enlightened, what is next? Do you think being enlightened is special? Because it is the opposite.
I have seen people claiming to have had a spiritual experience (it may be true) and going around wearing spirituality as a badge of honor. Enlightenment is very very ordinary. If you were special before, enlightenment makes you terribly ordinary. Everyone else may call you enlightened, but for you, it is shoonya. The best thing about enlightenment is when it is genuine/authentic, you realize it has been accessible to you all this while and how easy it is.
A Few Questions
Question - what was your definition of spirituality before you learned what it should be about?
What is that which is so innately yours?
What is the search, what is the thirst, what is it before you make it into something that even looks spiritual?
When people go back to this, they hit upon the very source that starts their spiritual journey. This source is your very own fuel that starts your journey towards Moksha. It is only then your various specific spiritual practices will be charged by that source.
Questions that can last a lifetime
1. What am I doing?
2. Why am I doing it?
3. Why am I here?
